I joined Peter Axelrod and friends of Great Swamp today to do a preliminary search for early woodcock at Great Swamp. Peter runs Great Swamp’s Woodcock programs held later in the spring.
We had a promising start to the season. We had 5-6 woodcock, audible, as we walked along the road. A number of woodcock flew across the road, dark silhouettes against the darkening sky looking like a cross between a bat and a bee with their heavy, round bodies.
